ELMIRA (AP) -- A 24-year-old upstate New York man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing a 22-year-old passenger when his car slammed into a house in the Southern Tier.
Joseph Upham of Elmira will draw a sentence of six to 12 years in prison at sentencing in August.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving recklessly while under the influence of alcohol.
Troopers say Upham was speeding on state Route 14 last Nov. 15 when his car struck a tree, a house and a parked vehicle in Millport, just north of Elmira.
Passenger Kaylah Morse of Painted Post died in the crash.
Troopers say Upham fled the scene and was captured at a house in Elmira the next morning.
