SYRACUSE -- A World War II era rocket turned up at the Air National Guard base at Hancock Airfield this week.

The guard called in a special explosives team from Fort Drum to check out the ordinance.

The National Guard shut down part of Molloy Road and, ultimately, determined that the rocket was safe.

A man says he bought it at the Regional Market last weekend, and the Regional Market says it is still working to find out who sold it and will take a close look at all of it’s vendors.

“We have very strict rules with our vendors about the sale of firearms and ammunition although that does not really fit into the category but, we will definitely have a discussion about it,” says Ben Vitale, Regional Market director.

Vitale says he's still not sure which vendor the rocket was purchased from.

The man who brought the rocket to the airbase is not facing any charges.
