Ithaca Firefighters had two separate incidents of bodies in Fall Creek Gorge on Saturday, and at this point they believe the deaths are unrelated.

About 1pm on Saturday they were called to near the suspension bridge, with reports of a body below.  They used a rope system to get down a steep staircase and recover the victim.  So far no word on identification, or on circumstances.  Ithaca and Cornell Police are investigating.

About 4pm, they were called again, when a person swimming at the base of the falls went under and did not resurface.  A grid search in the murky water turned up nothing, and the State Police Dive Team came in about 7pm, with the body recovered just before 9pm.  The Ithaca Police Department is investigating, and has not yet released the name of the victim.
