SYRACUSE -- Governor Andrew Cuomo will be in Central New York this afternoon to promote the state's newly enacted property tax cap.

The cap limits  local government and school district property tax increases.  The rate of increase is capped at 2%, unless 60% of a community's taxpayers vote to increase that amount.

Cuomo will be at the home of Christopher and Tina Maroney on Winchell Road in Syracuse at 1:30 this afternoon.

Critics of the cap contend the state has failed to eliminate state mandates. Those mandates increase costs to local governments, and  now those governments will not be able to raise taxes to cover those costs.
