An Ontario County grand jury has ruled that the use of deadly force by a Geneva police officer during a traffic stop was justified.
The sheriff's department conducted an investigation into the May 20 shooting of 34-year-old William Corey Jackson. Police say Jackson was asked to get out of the backseat of a car and he refused, then reached for something. Sgt. Carmen Reale, fearing it was a gun, shot Jackson fatally in the head.
Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo announced Tuesday that the grand jury found Reale's action was justified after hearing testimony from 15 witnesses and reviewing physical evidence.
