ROCHESTER (AP) -- A college student has pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter for killing a classmate in a two-car crash in a Rochester suburb in January.

Prosecutors say Danielle Pitcher, who admitted drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel, is expected to draw a six-month jail sentence in December.

The 20-year-old admitted in court Thursday that she was responsible for the crash that fatally injured her friend, Gabrielle Acevedo, one of three fellow Nazareth College students who were passengers in her car.

Avecedo lived in Port Chester north of New York City.

Pitcher, of Oswego near Syracuse, lost control on a snow-covered road and hit another car. The other motorist, Renee Broderick, survived serious injuries.

Before the plea deal, Pitcher also had faced charges of vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.
