ROCHESTER -- A man fell to his death from a popular ride at Darien Lake Theme Park Friday evening.

Reports from Buffalo say the man's name is Sgt. James Hackemaker. Reports say he is a Purple Heart recipient and was missing both legs after a roadside explosion in Iraq. You can read the report here.

The park remains open, although the ride from which he fell has been closed. Our sister station WROC-TV in Rochester is covering the story on the scene. You will find updates here.

A park spokesman says the incident happened at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The spokesperson also said a man "came out" of the Ride of Steel ride and "passed away".
