BATH, STEUBEN CO. -- State police are investigating a deadly crash.

It happened around 6:40 p.m. Sunday on I-86 between Exit 39 and 40 in the Town of Bath.

Police say 63-year-old John Owens, of Binghamton, was driving a 2002 Suzuki LX-7 off the south side of the highway. They say he lost control, flying over the guide rail and flipping over several times. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger, 43-year-old Brian Owens, along with two children ages 1 and 3 were transported by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where they were listed in stable condition.

The children were in child safety seats and the two men were wearing seat belts.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but no charges are expected to be filed.
