WATERLOO -- Seneca County Sheriff's deputies have recovered the body of a missing fisherman on Gem Lake in the Town of Waterloo.
Deputies resumed their search for this body around 8 a.m. after search efforts were suspended around 11:20 p.m. last night due to poor visibility.
Divers found the body of 44-year-old Ervin Archibald, of 96 Lewis Street in Geneva, around 9:37 a.m. in five feet of water.
Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Archibald and his friend, 53-year-old Nicholas Troiano, of 64 Seneca Street in Geneva, were fishing on Gem Lake when their small boat capsized.
Troiano was able to swim to shore and was rescued by a neighbor, 46-year-old Patrick Maher, of 2750 Preemption Street in Geneva. Maher heard Troiano's cries for help and was able to pull him out.
Archibald was pronounced dead on the scene. His body was taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Seneca County Sheriff deputies were joined by divers from the Ontario and Yates County Sheriff's Office, and Border City, Red Jacket and Clyde Fire Departments. Seneca Falls Fire Department provided a boat used during the search operation.
Foul play is not suspected. The investigation continues.
