AUBURN -- An Auburn woman is safe following a terrifying ordeal.
A 25-year-old woman, who police are not identifying, walked into police headquarters around 4:18 a.m. this morning and told officers a man tried to kidnap her at knife point. He is now in custody facing several charges.
The woman says she was walking westbound on Arterial West near North Fulton Street when a tractor trailer pulled over on the side of the road. The woman says he got out of the truck and told her to get in. When she refused, police say he grabbed her hand. That's when she spotted a knife in his hand.
She kicked him in the groin and ran off to the police department.
Police later pulled over 57-year-old Hristu Sacu, of Michigan. Police say he is a naturalized U.S. Citizen originally from Romania. He told police he was in Auburn making a delivery in the North Division Street area.
He is charged with attempted kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. He's scheduled to be arraigned in Auburn City Court this afternoon.
