SYRACUSE -- Syracuse police confirm they are investigating five violent robberies overnight in the city.
The first happened around 12:20 a.m. on Kirkpatrick and North Alvord Streets. Police say two men, ages 23 and 33, were attacked by four to five men. They both suffered minor injuries. The suspects took off with money and their cell phones.
The second attack happened about an hour later, around 1:30 a.m. along the 500 block of Greenwood Place. Police say a 25-year-old man was sitting on his front porch working on his laptop when two men walked up, demanding money and taking off with his computer.
Less than an hour later, around 2:20 a.m., a 66-year-old woman was sleeping on the couch in her home along the 500 block of Salt Springs Road. Police say she woke up to find two men pointing a gun at her. She gave them money and her purse.
Then, around 3:40 a.m., two men, one of the armed, walked into Pfohl's Tavern on South Salina Street. Police say they demanded money from the employee cleaning the bar. When the man told them the money was already in the safe, police say they pistol whipped him and a woman with him.
Around the same time, police say a 40-year-old man was approached by two men, one of them armed with a handgun, along the 3600 block of James Street. They demanded money and a struggle ensued. The victim managed to escape when his shirt ripped, then ran to Wegman's on James Street and hid in the store while watching the suspects inside a gray Buick looking for him.
