To bring: dish to pass and book to donate
There is already an autumn walk, to help families to heal after they've lost a child. Now, there will be a summertime picnic.
Mary Ann Dwyer, with St. Joseph's Hospital, says it's for the families of deceased children of all ages, aimed at helping them make new friends with people who share the tragedy. All area hospitals, as well as funeral homes and other groups that help in the grieving process are organizing the event.
Dwyer says families are being asked to bring a book, which was especially comforting in dealing with the loss, to donate to Onondaga County Public Libraries. Book name plates will be available, so dedications can be made in the memory of a child.
The picnic is next Sunday (July 31), 2 - 5pm at Syracuse's Thornden Park (enter near the Rose Garden off Ostrum Ave.)
Families are asked to bring a dish to pass, and to let them know you're coming at 440-911e or darotbla@syr.edu
