VAN BUREN -- A Van Buren man is recovering after sheriff's deputies say he nearly drowned.

Around 6:45 pm Saturday, sheriff's deputies say 48-year-old Peter Alwyn jumped off a boat and into the Seneca River.

When neighbors didn't see him surface, deputies say the neighbors jumped into the water, pulled him up and performed CPR until medical personell arrived on the scene.

Alwyn was taken to the hospital. Deputies say he is expected to recover.
