UTICA -- A man is dead in Utica after his motorcycle crashed into a taxicab.
According to Utica Police, around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday officers responded to the intersection of James Street and Howard Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Police say 38-year-old Jose A. Rodriguez of Rose Place in Utica was riding his motorcycle when he hit an ACE Taxi van driven by 27-year-old Jason Frick of Trenton Avenue, also of Utica.
Rodriguez was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
Police say investigators are reconstructing the accident, and do not have an official cause yet. Frick was the only person in the taxi at the time of the crash, and no tickets were issued at the scene.
This is the latest in a number of serious or fatal motorcycle crashes that have taken place in Central New York this summer. A recent study says motorcyclists are 37 times more likely to die in a crash than car drivers. What do you think can be done to prevent these deaths, and make the roads safer for all drivers?
