SYRACUSE -- Syracuse University football player Prince-Tyson Gulley was the victim of a stabbing overnight, and police say they're looking for the public's help with the case.

According to Syracuse police, around 1:25 Friday morning officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 300 block of Slocum Drive, which is part of SU’s South Campus. Police say a fight broke out at a large party, and when they arrived they found a 19-year-old man who had been stabbed several times.

Police say Gulley was taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Multiple sources had reported on Twitter earlier Friday that the victim was Gulley, a rising sophomore running back from Akron, Ohio. Gulley’s teammate Alec Lemon tweeted early Friday morning “Just got da news bout my teammate stay strong boy everyone keep Tyson Gulley in your prays and thoughts.”

On a Syracuse Orange fan messageboard, one poster named “DSyR440” says “My friend who was there at the time told me Prince-Tyson Gulley was stabbed in the back a couple of times by what seems to be a ‘townie’. Other students were involved in a brawl that I guess took place on a balcony. DPS was called and everyone there was questioned regarding the incident. Hopefully Gulley is alright.”

Gulley was primarily used as a kick returner in his freshman season for the Orange, amassing 633 yards on 29 carries in ten games. He is expected to have a larger role in the SU offense this year after the departure of senior Delone Carter to the NFL.

Police say their investigation into the incident is still ongoing. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Syracuse Police Criminal Investigation Division at 442-5222.

SU Head Coach Doug Marrone says the team is aware of the incident, and Gulley will be under the care of team medical staff.
