(AP) -- Four central New York school districts will be using Kindle e-readers in their high school English classes this fall.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that a $16,756 grant from the Central New York Community Foundation will pay for the program, called the 8-Ounce Backpack Project. The funding will be shared among Tully, Fabius-Pompey and LaFayette schools in Onondaga County and DeRuyter schools in Madison County.
The grant pays for teacher training and 84 Kindles for the four schools. The devices will have Internet access both through WiFi and a cellular signal.
In addition to reading books on the devices, students will be able to access the dictionary, thesaurus, periodic table, an academic planner and numerous other reference materials.
