SYRACUSE -- Police have arrested a teenager in the stabbing of a Syracuse Orange football player. Police say 19-year-old Kivon Davis of Benedict Avenue, Syracuse, stabbed Prince-Tyson Gulley on SU's South Campus one week ago.

According to Syracuse police, around 1:25am on July 29th, officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 300 block of Slocum Drive. When they arrived they found Gulley with several stab wounds. He's expected to recover from those injuries.

According to court documents obtained by CNY Central, Davis and Gulley got into a verbal altercation at a party on SU's South Campus.  According to those court documents, Davis displayed a folding knife and asked Gulley to step outside.  Fearing he would be stabbed, Gulley grabbed onto Davis -- causing both to fall to the ground.  Court documents show Davis stabbed Gulley several times, resulting in three stab wounds to Gulley's back and one to his right arm.

Gulley, a sophomore running back from Akron, Ohio, is seen as a rising star for the Orange.

Kivon Davis is charged with assault in the second degree, which is a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. He was arraigned yesterday morning in Syracuse City Court.

This afternoon the SU football team will hold its first media day and preseason practice session. Our sports team will ask about Gulley's condition and the status of wide receiver Marcus Sales, who was arrested over the weekend for drug possession. It's obviously been a tough pre-season for the Orange already. What do you think about their chances this year?
