FORT DRUM -- A Fort Drum soldier has been killed in the line of duty.
According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Mark Downer was killed Friday in Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade. Downer was 23-years-old and originally from Warner Robins, Georgia. Spc. Downer is survived by his child, mother and father.
Spc. Downer joined in the Army in December 2009 and came to Fort Drum in March of this year. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum.
