NELSON -- An overnight fire destroyed the headquarters of Cazenovia Equipment Company.
It broke out just after midnight at 3500 Route 20 in the Town of Nelson. Emergency crews from several fire companies were called in to help fight the flames. They were able to get the fire under control, but had to return when the flames rekindled later in the morning.
The John Deere Dealership's main showroom is a total loss.
Right now, investigators are still trying to figure out exactly how the fire started.
The company's co-owners Jim and Mike Frazee are devastated by the loss. This year marks the fiftieth year anniversary of Cazenovia Equipment, and it all started right here in Cazenovia, New York. My family and the larger family of Cazenovia Equipment have endured hardships and shall continue to do so. We are thankful that no employees were injured."
The building destroyed is the headquarters for nine other Cazenovia Equipment retail outlets throughout Central and Northern New York.
The company's phone system was destroyed, affecting communication to stores in Chittenango, Cortland, Clinton, Herkimer, Oneonta, Lafayette, Lowville, Sandy Creek and Watertown.
An emergency phone directorywas posted to help customers with questions and concerns on the company's website. A list of email addresses for various departments and direct phone numbers for key customer service team members was also posted on the company's website.
"We hope to restore the communications system as soon as possible and would like to encourage vendors and non critical inquiries to be forwarded by email if possible," said Jim Frazee.
The company has also created a Facebook page where customers can get updates on the disaster, as well as post questions or reach out for assistance.
