Police: Eight-year-old boy killed in golf cart accident

PALERMO, OSWEGO CO. -- An eight-year-old boy is dead after an accident on a golf cart, according to New York State Police.

It happened on Red Schoolhouse Road and Goodfellow Road in Palermo.

Cole Dolbear was riding in the golf cart with a friend on private property when he fell off  the rear of the cart and was killed, according to investigators. The boy's best friend was driving the cart at the time of the accident and didn't realize his friend fell off. The cart then accidently backed over Dolbear.

The driver was not hurt. Dolbear was transported to Oswego Hospital with a serious head injury and was pronounced dead.

The boys were not doing anything illegal by driving the cart on private property, according to police.

The boys respective elementary schools have been notified and will be providing grief counseling to students.
