PENN YAN, YATES CO. -- A Penn Yan man is accused of killing his dog.

Yates County Sheriff's deputies say 27-year-old Kendall Burkholder, of 2463 Himrod Road, killed a dog that was routinely hanging around his property.

The dog was reportedly not a threat to anyone.

Burkholder was charged with cruelty to animals and issued an appearance ticket.

He's scheduled to appear in the Town of Milo Court at a later date.

Should he have been locked up instead of issued an appearance ticket? Do we need stricter animal cruelty laws in this state? Leave your thoughts below.
