DARIEN CENTER -- Darien Lake's Ride of Steel rollercoaster will remain closed for the rest of the season.
The theme park tweeted the news today, saying, "Unfortunately, due to repairs requiring customized parts, the Ride of Steel will be closed for the remainder of the season. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience. ROS will re-open next season."
The news comes after two separate incidents on the rollercoaster this summer.
Recently, a cable snapped, forcing people to walk down from the rollercoaster. No one was hurt.
A month before, a double-amputee Iraq war veteran was thrown to his death from the ride on July 8th. Sgt. James Hackemer was laid to rest Monday at Arlington National Cemetery.
The 29-year-old father of two had lost both his legs to a roadside bomb in 2008.
A state Labor Department investigation determined that operator error was to blame for the accident. Investigators said park workers did not follow rules posted at the ride's entrance, which require that riders have both legs.
A wrongful death suit filed by Hackemer's family against the amusement park is pending.
