Students will be heading back to class in just a few weeks. That means a lot of parents are out shopping for clothes but this year it will cost more. Prices on things like fall clothes are up an average of 10-percent.
That impacts Andrea McCarthy of North Syracuse. She is getting ready to send her four kids to school. She's on a strict back-to-school budget of 280-dollars total.
McCarthy already bought some clothes, all are either from consignment stores or clearance.
"I also tend to buy ahead a season, or a year ahead so I have a lot of my things that I bought last summer or fall that I have ready now for this year," McCarthy said. "I bought them on clearance when they were the lowest price, all brand new for them to pull out."
Back-to-school shopping will ramp up over the next few weeks. But before you head to the stores, McCarthy, who blogs about coupons and deals on mycnymommy.com, says don't forget to go online to look for coupons.
"People should go to their favorite store's website and see if they can sign up for their email alerts and get a coupon sent to their email," McCarthy said.
You can get deals by taking advantage of social media. Just by 'liking' a store's Facebook page can set you up to get a discount. Bob Carrino of Cicero, has two kids going back to school and is looking to save money.
"You try and get a limit, this is how much we have and you teach hem how to shop at the same time," he said.
