SALINA -- A local doctor is charged with drunk driving in a collision in Salina that left a homeless man walking along the Onondaga Lake Parkway critically hurt.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies say 66-year-old Frank Vogel, of Franklin Square, was driving his BMW south on Onondaga Lake Parkway, just north of the CSX railroad bridge, when he hit 32-year-old Jason Farnham on the west side of the road.

It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Farnham was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition.

Deputies say Vogel was driving home from a dinner and had a blood alcohol content of .20 percent, more than twice the legal limit. They were unable to confirm which hospital he works for as a doctor.

Right now, the Sheriff's Accident Investigation Team is looking into the accident to determine whether or not Farnham was in the roadway at the time of the collision. Deputies say it was pouring rain at the time.

Vogel is charged with DWI with a blood alcohol content of .20 percent, vehicular assault, three counts of driving while intoxicated, driving on the shoulder of the roadway and failure to notify change of address.

He was arraigned last night in the Town of Salina and is currently held in the Justice Center on $25,000.00 cash or bond.

Upstate University Hospital released a statement saying "Dr. Vogel is no longer employed at Upstate and does not work at Upstate University Hospital. His employment here ended on Aug. 22. His employment status is unrelated to the incident giving rise to his arrest this weekend."

If convicted, what do you think Vogel's punishment should be? Leave your thoughts below.
