UTICA -- A Utica man is accused of strangling a woman during a fight.

Utica police say a woman told them she was at her friend's home on Cottage Place when the friend's boyfriend got home. Police say 44-year-old John Holmes, of Steuben Street, started yelling at her, strangling her and dragging her by the neck down the stairs to her home. Police say he then dragged her inside, throwing her onto the bed. But it didn't end there. Police say Holmes they held a chair over the woman's head. That's when she started yelling for her daughter to call police.

When the daughter started calling police, investigators say Holmes turned to the girl and started strangling her.

He is now charged with menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
