A New York vintner has produced a 9/11 memorial wine that's been approved by the Sept. 11 memorial board. But critics say the wine's in poor taste.

According to the Daily News, Lieb Family Cellars of Mattituck will donate up to 10 percent from each sale to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

The bottle costs $19.11

New York City Councilman Peter Vallone is blasting the plan, saying "What's next? A 9/11 pastrami sandwich?"

Irene Lavelle, whose husband died in the attacks, says the wine demeans the date.

Lieb general manager Garry Madden says the vineyard lost many friends on 9/11, and the wine was a way to give something back.

Sept. 11 memorial board member Monica Iken says the effort will help sustain the memorial for the future.

As you might imagine, this story is already creating a buzz online, with the comments pouring in. Here's what some people are saying:

"9/11 wine? Hawkers selling their wares around the Ground Zero site? These fleas have no conscience. They idolize the dollar."

"Nice advertising, bet those will fly off the shelves now. Hard to get that kind of PR for a simple bottle of wine! Kudos to whomever was working for the store that got this into the front page. Give that employee a raise for pete's sakes."

"I'm not against people creating things in order to sell and provide charity to the 9/11 funds. However, I do not think wine is a proper choice. It's tasteless in my opinion."

What do you think? Is it distasteful? Or do you think it's a good idea? Leave your thoughts below.
