FORT DRUM -- A Fort Drum soldier has been diagnosed with rabies.
According to officials at Fort Drum, the soldier was diagnosed with rabies on Friday, August 19th and is currently undergoing treatment. The soldier is not being identified.
People who had close contact with the soldier have been, or are being notified, to determine whether or not post-exposure rabies vaccination is required due to contact with the patient.
Military officials say the soldier did not contract rabies here in New York, but likely overseas during a recent deployment.
The Department of Defense, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with the New York State Health Department, are monitoring the Soldier's care.
