CICERO -- The Cicero Police Department says it has made major progress cutting down on thefts from cars.
So far this year, there have been 43 incidents of items being stolen from vehicles. For the same time period last year, there were 105. That's a reduction of 59 percent.
Police credit the change to an increased vigilance from residents, and say more people are doing what they should, which is lock the cars at night.
Officers say some of the reduction is also because of increased evening patrols through neighborhoods, as well as an online effort to get information out to the community,
The police department says the goal is to have no more incidents this year.
