CANANDAIGUA -- Police say a New York City man kicked a seagull that later had to be euthanized.

Canandaigua City Police tell local media that witnesses say 20-year-old Jeremy Lowengard kicked the bird Tuesday.

Lowengard is charged with torturing or injuring an animal under state Agriculture and Markets Law, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned and sent to the Ontario County Jail on $1,000 bail. Police did not know if Lowengard had a lawyer.
