A recent experiment shows how important it is to stay on your toes and protect your privacy online.  KXAS NBC in Dallas ran a series of experiments with a private investigator.  Simple google searches turn up an impressive amount of information.  Combine it with facebook you can find photos, addresses, places of work and more.

Some suggestions to stay safe, don't use your real name on a social media site.  You can create an e-mail alias when filling out certain online forms.  Some women use their maiden name instead of the married name.

If doctors offices or banks ask to save your online information, computer experts say don't do it.  That information will actually be stored on their computer.

Internet archive sites can also pull up information you thought was once deleted.
