North American Championship set for Saturday afternoon
GEDDES -- Lots of breeds and disciplines show at the State Fair, but the highlight is definitely the draft horses--the giants of the horse world.
At noon, our guest, from Windemere Farms in Pennsylvania, the world champion Percheron mare--a beautiful, but big (a ton +) horse that stands six foot four, at the shoulder...closer to 9' at the tip of her ears. Check the video for a look at the size of her feet!
The Draft Horse North American Championships, the six horse hitches, are Saturday at 1pm in the Coliseum. 21 teams will be competing, and the mare who was our guest is the lead horse (in the front) on the Windemere entry. About mid-afternoon Saturday they'll be doing the 8 horse hitches,
even more impressive when you think that all that connects these big animals to their human handlers is thin strips of leather.
