NYS FAIRGROUNDS -- It's been no secret.
Changes to the bathrooms at the 2011 New York State Fair has been a hot topic. New this year, there are no more attendants in the bathroom assisting fair goers. Many of you have left your comments on our facebook page, telling us the bathrooms are way too dirty this year as a result of the change. Others have told us they love the change, and no longer feel the guilt of not tipping someone after a visit to the restroom.
State Fair Director Dan O'Hara admits the changes didn't get off to a fresh start, but said his staff has made the proper adjustments to make sure the bathrooms are as clean as possible.
O'Hara said State Fair employees continuously make their rounds throughout the Fair Grounds to wipe up toilets ,sink, floors and doors. They tend to hit high-traffic restrooms first before moving on to ones that aren't used as much, he said.
"Overall, we've done very well at it," O'Hara said. We had our trials and tribulations the first couple of days, and it's something that we'll continue to monitor after the Fair to re-evaluate the whole set of circumstances and see what we can do differently going forward."
O'Hara said he welcomes suggestions and will get to work quickly planning next year's State Fair. The first meeting for the 2012 State Fair is Tuesday morning, just hours after this Fair wraps up.
