SYRACUSE -- It was a special night for one local polka band.

Fritz's Polka Band, based in Verona, was featured on the hit television show "Breaking Bad" Sunday night.

The song chosen hold's a special place in Fritz Scherz, the band's namesake and founding member.  "Grandfather's Polka" was written by Fritz's father, Fred.

"My father wrote the song...and I helped out a little bit with it," Fritz said.  "I still remember finishing up the song that day, sitting in the dining room at the time."

Fritz would have loved to share Sunday night with is father.  But Fred, also a founding member of the band, passed away nearly two years ago.

"If he was still here today he be tickled too, I can guarantee you that."

Tickled to see the polka band earn yet another accolade.  Fritz's Polka Band was the first polka band to perform at Woodstock in 1999.  The band was also inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame last year.

Fritz said this honor is up their on the list of accomplishments for this band.

"It's a pinnacle moment because I don't really know how many times something like this happens...I mean it took us 32 years."

A pinnacle moment for one local band, sure to be back in the headlines again.
