BRIGHTON, NY -- New York State is having a tough time unloading an Adirondack prison it closed two years ago.

The Observer-Dispatch of Utica reports that the Office of General Services has unsuccessfully tried twice to auction Camp Gabriels, a former minimum-security prison located in the Franklin County town of Brighton.

The 92-acre property 15 miles northwest of Lake Placid includes 48 buildings set amid the Adirondack Park.

County economic development officials say they've been unable to find a developer for the site, despite financial incentives such as loans and help with tax exemptions. They tell the newspaper that the state wants to sell the property in one piece and not break it up into separate parcels.

The site began as a tuberculosis sanitarium in the early 20th century.
