Flooding that has slammed New York state from the Adirondacks to the Catskills is now starting to close roads farther west into Central New York.
Thursday morning officials closed several highways and roads to and around major highways in Herkimer, Oneida and Madison counties as far west as the city of Oneida.
The closings included part of Route 365A near the city of Oneida and Route 5 between the Montgomery County line and Fonda.
Local road closures extended to the Interstate 81 corridor north of Binghamton, as well as along parts of Interstate 88 and nearby roads in Otsego, Delaware and Chenango counties.
A stretch of Route 17 along the Susquehanna Rivera on the Pennsylvania border west of Binghamton is closed between Exits 61 and 62 in Tioga County.

The following is from the State Thruway:
I-88 in Binghamton is closed between Exit 3 and Interstate 81
I-81 is reduced to one lane, just north of Binghamton, between Exit 6 and Exit 8
The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that travel is allowed between Exits 27 and 28 in both directions on the Thruway. Interstate 90 has been reopened to traffic in both the eastbound and westbound directions. Motorists traveling between Exits 27 & 28 should expect lane restrictions, reduced speed limits and traffic delays.
Motorists should avoid travel within the Mohawk Valley Region, and seek alternate routes outside of this region, as widespread flooding of area roads is expected.
