DEWITT -- There weren't many dry eyes Sunday morning at the 9/11 Memorial in front of DeWitt Town Hall.

Three fire departments, two police departments and hundreds of people honored those who lost their lives ten years ago during the September 11th terrorist attacks.

"I just felt like I had to be here for the all the people who lost their lives and their families...and their loved ones," said Kitty Houghtaling, of East Syracuse.

And while seeing hundreds of people dressed in red, white and blue was not a surprise the morning -- the showcase of patriotism and respect for the victims and heroes of September 11th was refreshing for the folks who came to the ceremony Sunday morning.

"It's very heart warming to see the number of people that do come out," said Eugene Conway, Dewitt Police Chief.

"Its a unifying thing," said John Halpin, of Syracuse.  "You forget about the differences."

September 11, 2001 will forever be etched in the mind of so many Americans, but for a much younger generation at Sunday's ceremony -- that day means very little.  It serves as both a teaching opportunity and challenge to parents.

"It's difficult to explain to a child," said Houghtaling.  "They've seen the footage, they can imagine in their own mind what has happened...and we just talk about why there's no reason to hate."
