DUNDEE, YATES CO. (AP) -- A funeral is set to be held for a soldier killed in Afghanistan just 12 days before he was to return home to get married in upstate New York.

The Department of Defense says Spc. Christopher Scott died of wounds Sept. 3 after insurgents fired on his unit in Kandahar province.

The funeral for the 21-year-old military police officer assigned to the Army's 101st Airborne was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the high school he attended in the Finger Lakes village of Dundee, 75 miles southeast of Rochester. Scott was from nearby Tyrone.

Scott, the eldest of three sons, was based at Fort Campbell, Ky., before deploying in July on his first tour overseas.

His parents traveled to Dover Air Force in Delaware with their sons and his fiancee for the return of his remains last week.
