ADAMS, JEFFERSON CO. -- A North Country man was arrested last month after police say he brought a gun onto school grounds.
According to State Police, on the afternoon of August 23 83-year-old Robert R. Hutchinson of County Route 69 in Rodman went to the South Jefferson School District office in Adams. Police say while he was discussing health insurance with a district employee he pulled out a .22 caliber pistol and showed it to the employee. Troopers say he did not use the gun to threaten the employee, but did not have permission to carry the weapon on school grounds. After Hutchinson left, the district notified State Police of the incident.
Later that evening Troopers investigated Hutchinson’s home and removed several handguns and rifles. Police say Hutchinson legally owned the guns and had a valid pistol permit. Police say that permit is under review by the Jefferson County Court.
Hutchinson has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds. He was ticketed and released. Police say the school district employee has requested an order of protection against Hutchinson.
