A report in the New York Post says that NY Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos approve a plan to bring new, privately run casinos to New York State.
Silver told the Post he would be willing to put one casino in the New York City borough of Queens where there is already a racetrack with video slot machines. Silver added that he believes casinos should be put in "resort" areas and not inner cities.
Privately owned casinos would likely require an amendment to the state constitution. Skelos and Silver said they would approve such an amendment.
Last month Governor Cuomo said he would support a larger statewide gambling plan that would include more casinos.
The Turning Stone Resort and Casino has opposed additional privately owned casinos in New York State and suggested that the state would be better off working with the Oneida Indian nation and other Native American tribes instead.
What do you think? Should New York State move ahead with plans for more casinos across the state?
