Two day show set for Beaver Lake
Orchids of all kinds will be the stars at Beaver Lake next weekend
The CNY Orchid Society stages its big show at Beaver Lake Nature Center next weekend (October 1 & 2), and it's a good way to see the variety in this, the largest of the plant families. Nancy Loveland, with the Orchid Society, says they grow in the wild from the tropics to Alaska, and that they come in all shapes and sizes. Many which end up as 'show plants' are hybridized from more common--and less showy--varieties. Loveland says orchids have a reputation as being difficult, but they're 'like people', in that they come in all varieties of needing care.
The CNY Orchid Society show will attract competitors, and sellers, from beyond Central New York. It's scheduled for noon - 5 next Saturday and 10am - 4pm next Sunday, at Beaver Lake Nature Center (Baldwinsville), and is free with park admission.
