This year a run, in addition to a walk
The help organization that works on recovery from substance abuse is planning its fall celebration: a recovery run, to let clients show that there is life after addiction. Syracuse Behavioral Health President and CEO Jeremy Klemanski says about 300 people will be participating, with many friends and family members there to cheer them on and show support. We asked if some people who've recovered wouldn't want to be so public about their past, and he says that being open about beating substance abuse is a positive step, that hiding the past might actually put a former abuser more at risk of returning to the problem.
The Recovery Walk/Run, which includes a certified/timed 5k for the first time, is set for Wednesday evening at the State Fairgrounds. Signup on their website, or at 474-5506.
