VERONA, ONEIDA CO. -- A Madison County man is dead after being struck by a car while walking over the weekend.

According to State Police, around 4:19 Saturday morning 45-year-old Jimmy L. Rogers of Stevens Road in Canastota was walking along State Route 13 in Verona when he was hit by a car driven by 59-year-old Jesse L. Tedford of Blossvale. Police say Tedford was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty when he hit Rogers, who was in the southbound lane of Route 13.

Police say that stretch of Route 13 is not lit, and it was dark and raining at the time of the accident. They also say Rogers was wearing dark clothing and was known to frequently walk in the area. He had just moved to Canastota from Tennessee.

Police say the cause of the crash appears to have been pedestrian error. No charges have been filed.
