SYRACUSE -- The armed man who confronted police during a domestic dispute in Syracuse will spend the next four years in state prison.
32-year-old Jermaine White was sentenced in Onondaga County Court this morning. He was previously convicted of criminal possession of a weapon.
Back in May, Syracuse police responded to a domestic dispute on Lodi Street. When police entered the multi-family home, they could hear a man shouting from inside an apartment, threatening to kill someone. Police say they then heard a shot and entered the apartment with their guns drawn. Police say they found White with a gun in his hand. The officers ordered White to drop the gun, which he did.
Police say the trouble started earlier when White and his girlfriend, 32-year-old Donesia Davis were arguing over text messages. When she tried to call 911, he took the phone from her and she hid in the other room. The couple struggled over a gun, and police say Davis fired one shot into the wall. Police say White took the gun away from her, and that's when police entered the apartment.
White was charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Davis was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
