LINCOLN -- Authorities say an central New York man has been found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning as jurors gathered to begin deliberations at his child sex crime trial.

Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley says 56-year-old Gary Tooke was found in his car by a relative who'd gone to bring him to court from his home in Lincoln, about 30 miles east of Syracuse.

Riley says investigators believe he committed suicide. Investigators say a note was left, but they're not saying what it said.

Tooke was accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy during two months late in 2009 and faced the possibility of decades in prison.

He was pronounced dead shortly before 9 a.m., when deliberations were set to start.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this article.
