MONTEZUMA, CAYUGA COUNTY -- Some people who live in Cayuga County are being ordered to boil their water.

The county health department has issued the order for water customers in the town of Montezuma public water system. Health officials say part of the system lost pressure Friday because of a leak and that can increase the chance for untreated groundwater and harmful microbes to get into the system. People who live in that area should not drink the water without boiling it first for one minute, then cool before using. People should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes and other food preparation.

Further testing will be done. The order remains in effect until further notice. Officials expect it will run until early next week.
