Festival of Races, Breast Cancer walk close streets

Two big Syracuse events are attracting thousands this morning---despite the rain.  And if you're driving near them, expect road closings and perhaps delays.

The Festival of Races is centered at Manley Field House.  The first race, the men's 5k, starts at 9:50, with more going til late morning.  Drivers who normally use E. Colvin St. (between Comstock Ave. and Nottingham Rd.), Meadowbrook Dr. (between Lancaster Ave. and Euclid Ave.), Lancaster Ave. (south of Broad St.), or Buckingham Ave. (south of Broad Street) are encouraged to plan alternate routes until about 11:30. East-side motorists can avoid the race courses entirely by using Comstock Ave. as a north-south route, and Euclid Ave. as an east-west route. Drivers are also encouraged to use Crawford Ave. (one block east of Meadowbrook Dr.) to travel between Euclid Ave. and Nottingham Rd. between 8:45 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.

The 'Making Strides against Breast Cancer' 3 mile walk in downtown Syracuse will also affect roads:  about 7,000 walkers are expected.  They're already registering, and the event starts at 10am, til early afternoon.  Downtown streets around Clinton Square will be blocked for the American Cancer Society event.
