City schools aready doing Rapid Results Projects
School Superintendent Sharon Contreras welcomes comment, as she puts together a district strategic plan.
Syracuse's School Superintendent is working at getting a better picture of how the city school district works, and how it fits in the community, as she puts together a master plan for changes. Sharon Contreras says that among the 'pieces' of the strategic plan she will announce at December's Board of Education meeting, a core curriculum revision, an educational effectiveness plan, and teacher evaluation proposals.
In an interview aired on Weekend Today in Central New York, Contreras said she is already making some changes, with a 'Rapid Results Project' in city schools. Each school has 100 days for the projects, which integrate different areas of study and make them relevant and interesting, as well as educational for students.
Contreras says she's spending a lot of her time at meetings with parents' groups, community organizations and others who are interested or concerned about Syracuse Schools. She told us she hopes her plan will be inclusive for all students, whether at, below or above grade level. She also encourages people to get in touch with their opinions, and is accessible through the Syracuse School District website, which includes a link to her email address.
