SYRACUSE -- A rapper scheduled to perform at Syracuse University’s Midnight Madness next week is facing assault weapon possession and domestic violence charges.
Anthony Smith, better known as Tone Loc, has pleaded no contest to the charges from an arrest made in June. Tone Loc is known for his hit songs “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina.”
The Associated Press reports that Superior Court Judge Patrick Hegarty of Burbank, California, sentenced Smith to one day in county jail, three years of probation, 30 days community service and 52 weeks of anger management counseling.
Smith was charged with one count each of possession of an assault weapon and corporal injury to a spouse. During the investigation, authorities found that Smith was in possession of an unregistered firearm, which was not used in the domestic assault.
Tone Loc is performing at Syracuse University’s Midnight Madness on October 14.
