SYRACUSE -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation invites the public to comment on an Interim Remedial Measure to address to contamination related to the Crucible Lake Pump Site.
The site is 3.5 acres located between I-690 Exit 7 and Onondaga Lake in the Town of Geddes, Onondaga County. The site is owned by the New York State Department of Transportation and has been used for parking and storing of construction equipment historically.
The proposed remedy calls for placing a foot stone cover across the majority of the site surface. The goal is to prevent human exposed to waste material placed by Crucible in the 1960s. The waste contains elevated levels iron, magnesium, chromium, nickel and zinc.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will consider public comments as part of the evaluation of remedial alternatives before a remedy is selected.
