The death of Apple Founder Steve Jobs is striking Central New Yorkers who are remembering the way he changed our view and use of technology. On Facebook one Apple product user from Liverpool said he teared up when he heard the news while driving in his car because Steve Jobs has made his profession easier for the last 25 years.
On Twitter, one post from a man in Syracuse said he was toasting Steve Jobs tonight as an expression of his sadness. Syracuse University iSchool Professor Anthony Rotolo is an avid Apple disciple. "We can see the way that he has influenced the sort of products we use everyday," said Rotolo in the CNYcentral studio tonight. "we are walking around with them - they are how we communicate with each other. So the things he created are very personal to our lives."
On the CNYcentral Facebook page: Patty Blackman said, "contributed to society in a way that will live on forever, a remarkable man. RIP Steve Jobs." Adam Best wrote: "As much of a role as Steve Jobs played throughout Apple's history, his legacy will live on through the people working there now. Apple is on the top of the technology world, it's going to stay there."
The cause of Jobs’ death is unclear, but he had been battling cancer for a number of years and had undergone a liver transplant in 2009. According to the Associated Press, Jobs had surgery for a rare type of pancreatic cancer that often returns or spreads to the liver.
The Associated Press reported that, “medical experts not involved in his care say that the liver transplant he had two years ago was probably a sign that his cancer had returned.”
“The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented,” said President Obama of Steve Jobs Wednesday night.
